Healthscreen was started in 1992, by a family physician, Dr. Bruce Rosenberg, as a hobby to create a seamless record that would serve patients not only for current care, but to also provide a sensible roadmap for the future, through health screening. The Company grew rapidly and started acquiring other medical billing software companies to grow its doctor-user base. To fund these acquisitions and continue development, the Company went public in 2001. From inception to 2007, Healthscreen acquired a total of 11 medical billing companies in Ontario, and grew its customer base to around 3,000 doctors.
In May 2007, Healthscreen made its twelfth and most notable acquisition, purchasing Medical Telecom Corp. ("MTC"). Unlike other acquisitions, MTC wasn't a medical software company; its CallerMD service provided Ontario physicians with a simple, effective billing system for uninsured medical services such as telephone advice, prescription renewals, missed appointments and sick notes. This high value service increased revenues and helped cut costs in physicians' offices, and demand for CallerMD was growing significantly amongst doctors.
Today, the "new Healthscreen" is more than a medical software company. Through its suite of value added services and easy to use software, the Company helps physicians improve the quality of care offered to patients, while increasing revenues and reducing costs through its services.
